Cataract Care Initiative

Restoring Vision, Renewing Independence

Overview

This initiative focused on addressing cataract-related vision impairment among elderly individuals through accessible and fully funded medical care. Conducted in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kathmandu United Center, the project aimed to ensure that quality eye treatment was not limited by financial barriers, but available to those who needed it most.

The Need

For many elderly individuals, gradual vision loss is often accepted as an inevitable part of aging. Cataracts, despite being highly treatable, remain a leading cause of impaired vision due to lack of awareness, delayed diagnosis, and limited access to proper medical care. Left untreated, this significantly affects independence, confidence, and day-to-day functioning.

Our Work

Through this initiative, we supported 15 elderly individuals by connecting them with qualified eye specialists for proper diagnosis and treatment. The process included eye screenings, consultations, and guided medical care, ensuring each participant received the attention they required.

All expenses related to consultations and treatment were fully covered, allowing individuals to access care without financial concern. The initiative was designed not just to treat, but to provide a sense of ease and reassurance throughout the process.

Impact

The outcomes of the initiative extended beyond medical treatment. Participants experienced improved vision, greater confidence in navigating their daily lives, and renewed independence. For many, it meant returning to simple yet meaningful activities like recognizing faces, moving freely, and engaging with their surroundings without difficulty.

Why It Matters

Clear vision is closely tied to dignity and quality of life. By making cataract treatment accessible and stress-free, this initiative contributed to restoring not just sight, but a sense of control and comfort in everyday living.
